Thanks for stopping by.
These little hounds have been a huge enjoyment to me. They have provided hours of stress relief, entertainment, and pleasure. I started running hounds with my dad and brother when I was a very young boy. For years we showed and competition hunted coonhounds. We have owned many champions, multi champions, and grand champion scent hounds. I was blessed to run the hills and bottom grounds of Western Ky. with my dad and brother, both named Phillip Whitaker. Dad spent countless hours with us in the woods/field as kids growing up keeping us busy and out of trouble. For me these hounds are not a business and have never been about making money. The reality is that since I have started with these little beagles I have done well to break even and most of the time have come out in the hole. Hounds and the outdoors are a southern way of life that I enjoy and it is fast slipping away in this quick paced modern world we live in. Somebody asked why Buckshot dogs and why I am so dedicated to this line of hounds? I was raised blue collar hard work and reward based upon that. Day in and day out these little hounds are the hardest working, steady, dedicated hounds I have every followed and blue collared to boot. They are not the flashiest or the fastest, but they are as gritty as John Wayne and they stick to it and get the job done. I love getting pictures back and video of the pups we have sent out getting to do what they have been bred to do and doing it well. Now, I am going to let you in on a little secret that a lot of big time breeders and trialers won't tell you. We raise a high percentage of dogs that make good rabbit dogs. Occasionally we have one that is a down right super star. But the reality is that all of them don't make it and occasionally a pup is produced that just doesn't get it. However, with 25 years of scent hound breeding experience. I put in the research and honestly assess the hounds to make the best crosses possible and increase the chances of a high percentage of successful rabbit hounds and thus a high percentage of successful hunts. When you get your hands on a pup from me what you are getting is a pup bred by a HOUNDSMEN that has been thought out, cared for, and bred with the notion of producing an outstanding young rabbit dog backed by integrity and honesty, just like dad taught us boys to be. I would also like to say that through the hounds I have made a lot of friends over the years. I guess what I am getting at is that for me these hounds are about relationships and appreciating what God has blessed you with. Enjoy the chase.
